The Best Way to Detox your body….
Yes, there is a right way and wrong way to detox. Instead of just purchasing the latest $50 bottle of detox cleansing pills, don’t you think we should figure out what caused you to need to detox in the first place?
I recommend opening all the different pathways of elimination within our body, first and foremost. After all, our body’s unique design is such that it doesn’t require a special diet or pill to detoxify or purge toxins. Rather than detoxify, if we simply amp up the elimination pathways in our body, and “digestify”, we create an environment where optimal health is just a product of that. Yep, it always goes back to the gut.
And no. No $50 pills and living on the toilet over a weekend necessary.
Think of your body as a construction site rebuild. Each construction site must have a project manager, or, the projects that need to occur in a certain order and at an orderly time will not be on target. For example, if you are currently wanting to remodel a home and notice that you need to start with a cracked foundation itself, and let’s say the painters show up to paint, you won’t be ready for them until you address the critical elements of the home first.
The same is true for your body. Sure, you can take the latest expensive detox pill or cleanse that’s out there, but if your intestinal wall is damaged from processed foods and stress, you will literally be “poo-ing” your money away as the nutrients in them won’t be assimilated or absorbed. Therefore, it’s best to set your body up for what it does best, and “digestify” (that is, amp up your natural digestion and elimination process) before your detoxify.
For this kind of a job, you need a healthy project manager.
What is your Project Manager? Your liver!
Whoever arrives at a construction site first, needs to see the project manager and he ensures that all the 500 different processes (that is the processes that your liver is responsible for) will be dealt with accordingly. Proper detoxification also only can take place if his co-worker “General Contractor” is on site and in good working order too.
“General Contractor” is our digestive system. Our first line of creating an optimal environment of rebuilding a cleansed, happy, healthy body is to address any issues pertaining to the digestive tract.
How do we begin? Here are some “digestify” tips to help the Project Manager & the General Contractor be in tip-top form:
- Notice if low stomach acid is an issue for you. Do you burp frequently after meals? Brittle hair and nails? Heartburn, GERD, or indigestion? Consider talking to your health care practitioner about supplementing hydrochloric acid, or simply include some “Swedish Bitters”, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar into your day.
- Eliminating the most inflammatory foods such as processed sugar, gluten, dairy, soy, artificial sweeteners, and fast food.
- Consume adequate animal sourced protein to help bring in the necessary amino acids for the liver to function optimally for detoxification (such as methionine)
- Eating smaller portions, as larger meals can cause toxicity with excessive volume that can’t be eliminated efficiently enough.
- Focus on a balanced approach to your meals, including good fats, adequate protein, and unprocessed carbohydrates mainly in the form of vegetables to aid in cleaning up the digestive tract.
Yes, the Project Manager and the General Contractor are important, but without the other members of the construction team, we still cannot build a healthy, clean running system. We also need the safety inspectors, construction laborers, and craftworkers. Let’s meet each one of these.
Once we have a well functioning Project Manger and General Contractor (liver and digestive system) it’s a good idea to have safety inspectors on hand to assess that all the nooks and crannies are being attended to. Such as in the case of “leaky gut”. Apart from an anti-inflammatory way of eating, we could also consider some supplements to help the gut regenerate optimally.
- Consider an L-glutamine supplement, a critical amino acid supplement to begin repairing any leaky gut issues
- A high quality probiotic specifically with regard to Bifidus and Lactobacillus can help offset any dysbiosis or harmful overgrowth of bacteria along with a low processed, and low sugar way of eating.
- Minerals such as zinc and magnesium can also help with the gut repair, and aid in elimination.
Next, the construction laborers known as essential fatty acids are responsible for starting the rebuilding of the foundations of this house known as “our body”.
- Bile, a very important detoxification fluid that comes from the liver and the gallbladder is built of healthy fats, and required for fat breakdown, as well as removing toxins from the bowels.
- To rebuild damaged or weak cell membranes, it’s critical to consume essential fatty acids such a animal sourced fats, and wild caught fish as these are the building blocks to stronger cell membranes. A stronger, more permeable cell membrane promotes the removal of waste out of the cell.
And finally the craftworker, the skilled tradesmen who assures quality craftsmanship throughout the body: Hydration.
- We are in essence 60% water, and we lose water all day long. Therefore it is critical that water becomes a staple if we are to create an optimal, detoxifying body.
- Adequate hydration keeps our lungs moist, and eliminating toxins from our lungs is a critical part of detoxification too.
- Adequate hydration also ensures enough urine to help flush out the waste, and moves stools along to rid bacteria and toxins through feces.
After “digestifying”, and remodeling your natural toxic elimination system, you are now ready to tackle any leftover residual toxins with detoxifying protocols such as:
- Dry Brushing
- Oil Pulling
- Infrared Sauna sessions
- Contrast Showers or cold thermogenesis
- Even intermittent fasting or water fasting is only appropriate after first digestifying.
